Sports Grant 2018/19

High Down Infant School has been awarded the sum of £18,800 to use for sport funding from September 2018 to August 2019.

The money is being used as follows:

  • PE co-ordinator release time/supply costs.
  • Supply and transport costs to enable teachers to take groups of children to multi-sports competitions during the academic year
  • Purchase of new PE equipment and resources
  • PE coaches / CPD for all teachers
  • Dance coaches / CPD for all teachers
  • Wow day workshops
  • To enhance the whole school sports week with external providers in the summer term to broaden the range of experiences for the children.
  • Lunchtime sports coaches provision for KS1 playgrounds
  • PE observations/learning walk

The impact of sports funding on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment so far includes the following:

  • Professional development for teaching and support staff
  • The school has entered and had continued success in a wide variety of tournaments and competitions
  • Improved resources have contributed towards enhancement of our pupils’ sporting experiences and performance
  • The children have been able to try out new sports and learn new skills
  • We offer our children the opportunity to attend a wide range of after school sports clubs with financial support available for pupil premium children.
  • To improve and enhance positive, energetic play at lunch times.

High Down Junior School has been awarded the sum of £19,800 to use for sport funding from September 2018 to August 2019.

The money is being used as follows:

  • Full membership of North Somerset PE Association which provides staff training, competitions and tournaments throughout the academic year leading to Regional and National events
  • Membership of Gordano Academy’s Legacy programme which provides specialist teaching support, local competitions and tournaments
  • Supply, transport and other costs to enable teachers to take groups of children to a wide variety of tournaments and competitions throughout the academic year
  • Purchase of new PE equipment and resources

In addition, the school:

  • subsidises a wide range of extra curricular opportunities for our children
  • employs specialist PE teachers in all year groups to work with classes

 

The impact of sports funding on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment so far includes the following:

  • Achieving School Games Gold standard
  • Professional development for teaching and support staff
  • The school has entered and had continued success in a wide variety of tournaments and competitions
  • Our school has traditionally had a very strong reputation and high success rate in competitive sport and we expect to improve even further over the course of this academic year
  • Improved resources have contributed towards enhancement of our pupils’ sporting experiences and performance
  • We have established strong links with local clubs including Future Stars, North Somerset Athletics Academy, Portishead Cricket, Tennis and Football clubs, Portishead Gymnastics Academy, Clifton College and Gordano Rugby.
  • We offer our children the opportunity to attend a wide range of after school sports clubs with financial support available for pupil premium children.

 

Swimming

95% of Year 6 children are able to swim 25m in year 6.

76% of Year 6 children use a range of strokes effectively.

49% of Year 6 children can perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

 

Sustainability

The school has greatly benefited from the CPD opportunities of working alongside highly skilled sports coaches. Staff skills levels and confidence have improved over time which has created a lasting legacy  for our children. When the sports impact reports are completed at the end of the school year the PE co-ordinators will focus on how individual improvements can be sustained over time.
