Dear Parents and Carers

It hasn’t been the start to the new term that we planned or wanted and we are bitterly disappointed that all our children cannot be in school at the moment. We will continue to do all we can to support your children. We have been so impressed with the children who are working both on and off school site. They have transitioned incredibly well and we would like to thank you, as parents, also for your support and patience during this difficult time.

Reminders for parents and carers of children who are coming onto school site:

  • Please ensure that if your child requires a School lunch that this is ordered on Aspens by 5:00pm the evening before.  School lunches are now being prepared and sent up from Gordano School so it is vital that lunches are ordered in advance.  If your child does not require a School lunch then please ensure they bring in a packed lunch.  This also includes Fridays with School finishing earlier because the children will eat their lunch together before they finish.  Please find the current menu attached* (will just show on Aspens as meat or veggie) and the allergens list is also attached*
  • Please wear a mask when dropping off your child/ren (unless you are exempt from wearing them)
  • Socially distance from other parents (even those in your class bubble)
  • Please keep your children with you at all times when you are on the school site, rather than letting them run around the playground.  Please do not talk to the staff but instead call or email any questions or messages
  • As soon as you have dropped off your child please leave the site and follow the rules on social distancing
  • Please do not come to the school office. All contact should be via telephone or email
  • Please remember to send your child in plenty of layers – it is due to be cold next week.

Reminders for parents and carers of children who are working remotely:

  • Please note that if you email staff or send a message to staff via Teams on the weekend or late at night please do not expect a response until the next working day.
  • Login queries should be sent to the school office, thank you
  • We will set assignments for Maths and English via Teams for your child to complete and will provide feedback on that work via Teams. Mostly this will be just a positive remark to show they have completed the task effectively. We will provide oral feedback during the whole class welcome where we have noted any children who have struggled with a concept. We will also provide more tailored feedback during our group work or pre teach sessions led by the class teacher. Please support your child to complete work and submit finished tasks via Assignments on Teams
  • Reception are not setting assignments but ask you to add children’s achievements, photos of work etc to the ILD.Please see the YR Guide to Home Learning in the Home Learning Channel on the class teams
  • For children who are sharing devices with siblings, we have recently found out that you can also access Teams on both Playstation and Xbox and instructions are attached*
  • If your child is poorly or will be unable to log on that day, please e-mail Lisa on office@highdownschools.org confirming your child’s name and assigned online Teacher and message will be passed on.

Infant reading books – we are aware that a number of parents have asked if they can collect and return reading books from outside the school office. In the light of the very strong ‘stay at home’ message from the government over the last few days, we are not offering this service at the present time.Other schools may take a different approach, particularly if they have a more limited online offer, but all our children have the opportunity to read Bug Club books online and all Infant children who are at home are being offered 1:1 Teams reading sessions using these. Please note that this is precisely the same for the children who are currently in school – they are not taking books home and all 1:1 reading is with Bug Club books.

We have received some lovely comments over the past week which is really appreciated and valued. We will review our systems over the next few weeks to see if there is anything further we can improve during this time.

Kind regards

Mr Rhodri Hopkins
