Art

At High Down School we believe that art is a vital part of our children’s education. Our high quality art and design curriculum is designed to motivate, inspire and challenge our children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to explore, devise and create their own works of art, craft and design. As our children progress they are challenged to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. Our curriculum enables the children to reflect on how art and design reflects and shapes our history and encourages the children to understand their own and others’ cultural heritage through the study of a diverse range of artists. The school is well resourced and our detailed clay work is supported by the school possessing its own kiln. Extended arts activities, for example arts week, are further enhanced by visiting artists working with the children. High Down children always participate in local art opportunities including Portishead in Bloom, Wallace and Gromit trails and the Window Wanderland and children are also encouraged to participate in National competitions.

You will see from walking around the school, that the staff at High Down value and celebrate the children’s wonderful art work.
