P.E.

At High Down Schools we strive to create a culture which aims to inspire an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. We aim to develop the knowledge, skills and capabilities necessary for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing in our children now and for their future. We aspire for the children to adopt a positive mind set and know that to be successful you must work hard, show resilience and determination.

PE at High Down Schools aims to develop a fun, high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel. We will provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Our children will have opportunities to compete in sport and other activities that build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. We believe that participation in sporting activity is a key element of developing a school in which pupils are proud of the community in which they belong. Therefore, great emphasis is placed upon additional sporting opportunities, beyond the lesson, within after-school clubs and inter-school competitions and festivals. We are passionate about the need to teach children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values.

Our curriculum is supported by high quality resources. The Infant School follow ‘real PE’ which focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning. As the children move into Junior School they have a weekly session of activities run by Future Stars coaches which is then reinforced and developed within their teacher led session.

Our PE Curriculum, along with PSHE and science, teaches children about the importance of healthy living and learning about the need for good nutrition. At High Down Schools, we aim for children to develop the necessary knowledge and skills which will have a positive impact on their future by becoming physically active citizens to benefit their long-term health and well-being.
