Weekly Update 6th October

Dear Parents/Carers,

Please find this week’s updates and reminders below:

Access to School Buildings

Please can we ask that parents and carers do not enter the school buildings at pick up or drop off time unless invited to do so by staff. If you have a query please make your way to the main entrance and the school reception desk where we will be happy to help.

Car Park Entrance

A polite reminder to parents/carers that the school car park entrance should not be used as a turning/drop off point. The entrance needs to be kept clear at all times to allow drive in access.

Nasal Flu Immunisations

A reminder that children in Reception to Year 11 are being offered flu vaccinations this winter to help protect them from flu and serious complications such as bronchitis and pneumonia. Vaccinating your child will also help protect you, your family and friends. The flu vaccine is administered using a nasal spray, this vaccine is free and painless, please ensure you complete your consent form at

https://imms.sirona-cic.org.uk/flu/2023/consent?v=1.23

If your child is unable to receive the nasal flu vaccine, community catch-up clinics will be available, please contact sirona.sch-imms@nhs.net or 0300 1245515 for more information.

Consent for Processing Personal Data

We use consent as our basis to process your child’s personal data in certain circumstances. Please note that there are certain activities in which we do not use consent as the basis for processing your child’s data. These are described in our Privacy Notices which can be found on our website https://highdownschools.co.uk/our-school/privacy-notices/ and which are available in hard copy from the school office.

Please also note:

  • Unless you have given your express consent, we will never put a child’s full name alongside any published image
  • Videos may be taken of lessons to support staff development: these may be seen by other teachers in school for staff training
  • We may also take photos/video of your child for identification purposes, and for evidencing their educational development. Such data will sit on their file and not be shared unless the law requires us to do so, or you have given your specific consent
  • Parents/carers are welcome to take videos and photos of their children at school events for their own personal use. However, to respect everyone’s privacy rights and in some cases protection, these images should not be published/made publicly available on social networking sites, nor should parents/carers comment on any activities involving other pupils in the images/footage
  • Websites and social media can be viewed throughout the world and not just in the United Kingdom, where UK law applies. When images are posted on the internet, it is not possible to prevent others from reposting them
  • Additional and specific consent for use by external agencies/companies may be sought

We will be updating consents by way of a short form later this term. Please be aware that you can withdraw consent at any time.

If you have any queries or wish to withdraw or review your consent, contact the school office or the school’s Data Protection Officer i-west@bathnes.gov.uk
